Emails and Notices

As some members, who are customers of BT, are not receiving some Club emails at the moment, messages sent out from the Officers or Committee members will be posted here.

Hopefully the problem will be sorted quickly. It has been caused by BT changing their security rules for emails. Bulk emails, such as our messages to the membership, are perceived as possible spam and are ‘bounced’.

30th August – Merchant Navy Day & Heritage Open Days

Dear Members

This Sunday, 3rd September there will be a short service on the Quay to celebrate Merchant Navy Day, starting at 12,30 pm.  The was the idea of our Town Mayor (and member) Jeanette Stilts and I am sure it will be a very moving ceremony.  A poster is attached.

On Friday, 8th September, as already announced, there is a Dave Selby Talk plus a generous Ploughman’s Supper – again this is a Mayoral event and booking needs to be through the Town Hall.  However this is not difficult and it will no doubt be a most enjoyable evening.

Finally for the first time MLSC is joining the Heritage Open Days on 9th  and 10th September.  Our very own John Rogers will be giving a Talk on the History and Restoration of Essex Melody at 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday, and Essex Melody will be moored at the Quay.

Maldon Riverside Association will be giving a Talk at 2.30 pm on both days, these are different on Saturday & Sunday, but are both concerned with Maldon’s Working waterfront and our unique maritime heritage.

I hope that you will be able to support some or all of these events.

I will look forward to seeing you in the Club very soon.

Regards Sue

21st August – Upcoming Sailing Events

Hi All

The East Coast Cruise is underway and we wish our fleet fair winds for the rest of the week.

Looking forward into next month we have our second ‘Come Sailing’ event of the season on Sunday 3rd September, which is aimed at our members who do not usually have access to boats or get out on the water.
If you don’t often get the chance to come sailing and would like to do so on 3rd September, please get in touch.
This event will be based out of Bradwell Marina but there may be possibilities to assist with transport if necessary.
If you’re able to make your boat available and skipper for this event please also get in touch.

The following weekend – 9th & 10th Sept – we have a Pyefleet Raft-up planned – hopefully a relaxed and social evening in a tranquil setting. Then on 14th September we have our annual Commodore’s Mid-Week cruise from Maldon down river to Bradwell. If you are thinking of participating in either of these events please get in touch, it would be great to see you there.

11th August – East Coast Cruise

Dear Members

Apologies for the slight delay in sending out this email.

We have had another small flood in the Club and that has kept me busy!  No real damage I am glad to say.  We just need to address the cause.

If you are interested in joining all or part of the East Coast Cruise there will be a Skippers Meeting next Wednesday, 16th August, in the Club at about 20.00.  I believe there will be a variety of sizes of boat on the cruise, and we will, of course, be very dependant on the weather.

We will have a rough plan of what we hope to do to show you next Wednesday, but members may well want to drop in , or out, of the cruise at any time. We hope to visit Woodbridge and the Deben, but apart from that we will be flexible.  If you are interested in coming, could you please let me know before next Wednesday, and let me have your mobile phone number.  This will be the best way to communicate.  I can then produce a list for everyone to have.

Please reply to email hidden; JavaScript is required and my mobile number is 07922 144273.  If you can’t get to the Club don’t worry – just let me know!

3rd August – Red Diesel

Dear Members
I am pleased to pass on some good news regarding British yachts visiting Belgian ports.
Yesterday we received from Craig Mackinlay MP for South Thanet a copy of a letter he had received from the Belgian Ambassador.  In this letter Mr Mackinlay is assured that no further fines will be levied until 18th September, when the relevant EU committee will meet to discuss this.
If anyone would like a copy of this letter, please contact me on email hidden; JavaScript is required and I will forward one.

I did try attaching a scanned copy to this missive but it didn’t seem to work!

However it is reassuring to know that we are able to visit Belgiam ports without risking heavy fines.
Happy sailing

Sue
