Brightlingsea Pontoon Party and Buxey Ashes Weekend

Dear Members,

I hope that the Covid-19 lockdown is going to permit us to get sailing properly again as we have been used to. I enjoyed the recent Osea Barbecue as it was the first sailing we have done on Islay Mist this year. It was a lovely evening with over twenty members enjoying the barbecue and managing to leave Osea Island just before the tide exposed the mud!

This weekend is the Socially-Distanced Brightlingsea Pontoon Party and Buxey Ashes; please let me know if you are going to join us as I need to book us in to Brightlingsea for Saturday night. Please let me know either by email to ''.

The "London Cruise", following on from the Buxey Ashes, has not attracted any takers this year. I have been told by several members of their concerns about going into London and I am fully in agreement that safety is key, so instead of a London Cruise, if anyone is interested in a cruise perhaps towards north Kent/Medway, please let me know. This could be a shorter cruise - doesn't need to be the full week.

The weekend of Friday 7th August to Sunday 9th August is our Blackwater Local Cruise. Please let me know if you wish to participate in this cruise. I would like to hear suggestions for places to visit. I know that this event often attracts boats with the shallower draft, so Islay Mist is not going to be able to join in everything. I am keen to get to know more about the area; it was only the weekend of the Osea barbecue that I first visited the north side of Osea Island - we ran out of water and found lots of mud... didn't run aground though, but it was a lovely experience and completely devoid of jet-ski things.

The East Coast Cruise is planned for 22nd-31st August and I look forward to hearing from anyone interested in spending time cruising our wonderful East Coast. Islay Mist will be out from 22nd to the 31st August. If we have anyone interested in heading up to Lowestoft or Southwold, I will happily join in. I am looking forward to enjoying the Walton Backwaters, Pyefleet Creek, Halfpenny Pier, The Rocks in the Deben, Woodbridge, the Stour, the Orwell...? ... and many more of the lovely places we have to relish! I hope you can join in with the East Coast Cruise with us.

Best regards,

Cruising Captain
