The Club is a registered RYA Training
Establishment. All
courses are held at the Maldon Little Ship Clubhouse on the Hythe at
Maldon.
Coffee, Tea & biscuits etc. are provided free for all course
attendees. Parking is available on the quay by arrangement with the
Maldon Council free of charge. Our Tutors are very experienced in
teaching these courses and all have extensive personal sailing
experience.
The MLSC is now one of the best equipped training centres with all the
latest electronic aids making the MLSC a centre of excellence.
These courses are open to non-members and members alike. They are also
available for EDAP funding (Ford employees). MLSC members receive a 10%
reduction in fees.
The Day Skipper, Yachtmaster Off-Shore
(Coastal
Skipper) and Yachtmaster Ocean courses, run for 26 weeks approximately
2 hours each session. You will be required to study at home
and complete home-work papers for assessment. All the RYA publications
required for the courses are included in the course fee. Each student
will require their own plotting equipment.
It is strongly recommended that students enrolling on the Yachtmaster
Off-Shore course will have already completed the Day Skipper course and
similarly those enrolling for the Yachtmaster Ocean Course should have
completed
the Yachtmaster Off-Shore Course.
The Short Range Radio Certificate
(GMDSS) courses are run on either a Saturday or a Sunday on the dates
shown on the 2008/2009 schedule, It is a full day course with the exam
at the end of the day. Training is given using real VHF DSC radio's
(not simulators) usually with a maximum of 8 students per course.
Students who wish to upgrade from the old VHF Licence still do the full
course but at a reduced fee.
Non-members who enrol for the navigation courses
enjoy student
membership of the
MLSC during their attendance and can apply to join the Club when their
course has ended. The normal joining fee is waived if they are accepted
as members and only the annual subscription will be payable.
It
is advised to book early as we nearly always have more applications
than places available.
Please contact the Training
Principal
before posting your booking form to confirm that places are available.
