The
Sponsored Row 2008
was again a great success, with 33 boats entered, rowed by very
enthusiastic and hardy crews who enjoyed excellent weather conditions
although a trifle cold.
Apart from one capsise (quickly ferried ashore by a safety boat) all
the entrants were able to complete the course, and everyone
received very appreciative applause from the large crowd of onlookers
on the quay as they came ashore.
The West Mersea Lifeboat was in attendance for the race and was able to
assist our safety boats in keeping a watch over the rowers.
MLSC would like to extend a sincere thank
you to all who took part and to those who assisted in the running of
the event.
The estimated amount raised in 2008 was
£4500
The
total raised for the RNLI over the last 31 years has been over
£140,000 (up to December 2008)
