The programme of events for 2009 was: The Yacht & Smack Races will start from Mersea Island (Nass Beacon) from 0800 Hours. Download printable Entry Form in Acrobat format Entry Form 2009 Race Classes & Events Shore Side Events on the Quay will commence at 12.00 and during the day various events are taking place together with many displays & stalls from local Charities. The principal events for children are the Fancy Dress Competion (theme - The Battle of Maldon) at 12.30, a Childrens Art Competion (entries in by 1400) judging will be at 1500 and the Rubber Duck race starting at 1430 for the GOLDEN DUCK AWARD and £25.00. Entry is £1.00 per duck. At 1500 hours there will be a new event - a Crew Tug of War The Barbeque will commence at 1300 for those of you who are hungry! From the Promenade there will be a good view of the Dinghy race by Maldon Yacht Club. Start time approx 1400. Cadets (under 18 years old) Dinghy races will take place at Blackwater Sailing Club. The Yachts and Smacks will be
returning to
the Quay in a Parade of Sail Race from about 1345
- this is
an excellent opportunity to view and photograph these superbly
maintained "Old Gaffers" some of which are over 100 years old. There will also be a Musical Entertainment throughout the afternoon including Sea Shanties and a Ceiladh Band, and a Childrens Funfare on the Hythe. Prize Giving will commence at 1745 on the Quay. Live music will start on the Quay at 1930 with the Doll Set Tones and at 2000 The Cameron Band will perform until 2330. A
warm
welcome also
awaits everyone at St Mary’s, the
‘seaman’s
church’ on Hythe. It is hosting its first open day
on
Regatta Day from 10-4pm. There will be numerous displays –
including one from the Mission to Seafarers, also demonstrations of
hand bell ringing, tower bell ringing and much more.
Refreshments available, include bacon butties at lunchtime and cream teas in the afternoon Photographs taken during the day will be on display in The Queens Head from 1930

available on the day. Programmes are only £1.00 each and contain information on the events and where to watch. All proceeds are in aid of Local Charities. |
